How your home shapes your well-being.
Your home is always quietly influencing your health and happiness - even when you don’t realise it. Every detail matters: the textures beneath your fingertips, the colours that surround you, the materials that breathe within your walls, the lighting you choose. These choices send messages to your nervous system, shaping how calm, grounded and supported you feel each day. Colours matter, more than you realise. Don’t just follow trends. A fully beige space is not always good for your health. If everything is taupe - walls, furniture, lighting, décor…you might experience low stimulation, feeling flat, bored, or low energy. Mental dullness over time and less emotional uplift. This isn’t harmful in a medical sense but it can affect your mood and energy. The key is balance, natural light, green plants and one or two accent colours to stimulate the mind and add plenty of textures.
The beautiful thing is that this connection works both ways. You can intentionally design your home to help you feel the way you want to feel - to nurture calm, restore energy and create an atmosphere that truly supports your well-being.
At Jenny Butterfield Designs, that’s what I want to create for you. Create a home that not only looks beautiful, but feel deeply good to live in. One of the ways I do this is by using textured Venetian plaster - a natural , breathable, wipeable material, unlike some toxic paints on the market. This creates a healthier indoor environment that feels alive and harmonious, as well as unique to you. Using sustainable woods and upcycling solid, well-made pieces of furniture. Also, incorporating biophilic design.
And then there’s Art - another essential piece of the puzzle. The artwork I create has a powerful emotional effect. It can uplift you, soothe you and bring meaning and personality to your home or business. Its not just something to look at, its a living expression of emotion, energy and beauty woven into the environment.
These mindful design choices make a huge difference for everyone - and especially for Highly Sensitive People (HSP’s). When you feel things deeply, your surroundings play an even bigger role in your balance and peace of mind. Natural textures, breathable finishes and intentional art can create a sanctuary that supports rather than overwhelms your senses.
This isn’t about trends or perfection - its about connection. Its about creating a home that restores you, inspires you, and mirrors who you are.
Every surface, colour and brushstroke, design or trowel stroke is chosen with care, blending creativity, intuition and science to make your space a true reflection of well-being. This isn’t just sentiment - its science backed and soul-led. xx
